From childhood, I experienced Spirit as a natural part of life. Seeing and hearing my grandfather after his passing was never strange or scary to me. It simply was. Yet, the adults around me found this unsettling. Their discomfort taught me to hide what I sensed, to soften or silence my experiences. Over time, I replaced open expression with quiet observation. I learned to rely on logic and analysis, which felt safer than trusting my intuition.

This blog explores how motherhood became the turning point in reclaiming my intuitive self. It’s a story about unlearning suppression and embracing the deep knowing that had always been there, waiting patiently in the background.

The Early Years of Suppression

As a sensitive child, I quickly understood the need to adapt. Adults around me didn’t have the language or openness to hold my experiences with Spirit. I learned what could be shared and what needed to be hidden. This wasn’t about losing my intuition; it was about survival.

  • Observation replaced expression

I became highly attuned to people’s emotions and environments but kept this awareness inside.

  • Logic became my refuge

I found comfort in structure and reasoning, which felt more acceptable and less vulnerable than intuition.

  • Intuition waited quietly

Though silent, my intuitive sense never disappeared. It simply waited for a moment when it could be trusted again.

This early suppression shaped how I navigated the world. I built a successful career in corporate and retail sectors, where rational thinking and systems were valued. On the surface, everything made sense. Spirit was kept at a distance.

Motherhood as a Catalyst for Change

The shift didn’t come from a crisis or sudden awakening. It came gently through motherhood. When my son was young, I noticed the same intuitive awareness in him that I had hidden in myself.

  • Recognizing sensitivity

His ability to sense emotions and energies reminded me of my own childhood experiences.

  • Seeing intuition in action

The way he perceived the world without fear or doubt challenged my long-held beliefs about what was safe or acceptable.

  • A call to unlearn

Motherhood invited me to revisit my own suppressed intuition and question the logic that had kept it at bay.

This process wasn’t easy. It required patience and courage to trust what I had been taught to doubt. But it also brought a profound sense of connection, to my child, to Spirit, and to myself.

Practical Steps to Embrace Intuition

Reclaiming intuition after years of suppression takes intentional effort. Here are some practical ways to begin:

  • Create quiet moments

Spend time in stillness to listen to your inner voice without distraction.

  • Journal your experiences

Writing helps uncover patterns and feelings that logic alone might miss.

  • Trust small nudges

Pay attention to subtle feelings or thoughts that guide decisions, even if they seem illogical at first.

  • Practice mindfulness

Being present helps you notice intuitive signals in real time.

  • Seek supportive communities

Surround yourself with people who honor intuition and spiritual awareness.

These steps helped me move from hiding my sensitivity to embracing it as a source of strength.

The Balance Between Logic and Intuition

Logic and intuition don’t have to be opposing forces. In fact, they can complement each other beautifully.

  • Logic provides structure

It helps organize thoughts and make practical decisions.

  • Intuition offers insight

It brings awareness beyond what can be measured or explained.

  • Together they create balance

Using both allows for grounded, yet inspired choices.

Motherhood taught me that trusting intuition doesn’t mean abandoning reason. Instead, it means allowing both to inform how I live and parent.

Embracing a New Path

Unlearning suppression is a journey without a fixed destination. It requires ongoing attention and kindness toward yourself.

  • Be patient with setbacks

Old habits of silence and doubt may resurface. That’s normal.

  • Celebrate small victories

Each time you honor your intuition, you build confidence.

  • Allow your child to teach you

Children often remind us of what we have forgotten about ourselves.
